Sean Penn wins Best Actor Oscar as gay politician Harvey Milk [video]

”Finally, for those who saw the signs of hatred as our cars drove in tonight, I think it is a good time for those who voted for the ban against gay marriage to sit and reflect and anticipate their great shame and the shame in their grandchildren’s eyes if they continue that way of support. We’ve got to have equal rights for everyone!”

Sean Penn during his acceptance speech for his Oscar winning role as the openly-gay San Francisco politician Harvey Milk. Penn opened his remarks by jokingly calling the Academy Awards audience “commie, homo-loving, sons of guns,” and thanked the gay screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (who also won an Oscar), and the film’s director Gus Van Sant.
