Team DC readies to win big at 2010 Gay Games

Representatives from Gay Games Cologne VIII, scheduled to play out July 31 to Aug. 7, 2010, will be at Nellie’s Sports Bar, 900 U St. NW, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., on Thursday, Nov. 5, for a special registration event for the 2010 Gay Games.

The quadrennial sporting event is expected to draw up to 48,000 people for the opening ceremony. The competition features 34 sports and five cultural events and is expected to attract up to 12,000 participants.

Despite Washington’s recent losing bid to host the 2014 games, Brent Minor of Team DC says he’s excited about the 2010 event.

”We’re disappointed, but the Gay Games movement is a lot bigger than any one city or any one person’s feelings,” he says. ”Team DC is still a proud contigent of the Federation of Gay Games.”
