Tracy Morgan’s uneven comedy not so funny with the gays

”The tone of the night took a noticeable turn when [Tracy] Morgan asked for the gay men in the audience to cheer. He explained that while he harbors no hatred for homosexuals in general, he doesn’t appreciate when they try to ‘suck [his] dick.’ Morgan repeated the joke several times, and the laughs became more and more hesitant.”

Kevin Sullivan of Northwestern University‘s publication in a review of comedian Tracy Morgan‘s raunchy comedy show. It was reported that Morgan ran into some controversy late last year when he tore into the President Barack Obama‘s sex life with wife Michelle, and at the same time saying that being gay is a choice, which caused some audience members to walk out. ”I found a lot of the show pretty awful, but I definitely agree with Kevin’s assessment of the gay jokes standing out as especially bad. Gay humor isn’t always bad, and being gay myself I love laughing at it. But that just made me extremely uncomfortable. The only line I found funny in that segment was ‘if you can take a dick, you can take a joke’ and those are Immortal Technique lyrics. Hardly original stuff….”

A second opinion about Tracy Morgan‘s off-color remarks about all types of people, including gays, which some found more shocking than funny. (North by Northwestern)

”Tracy Morgan oh-so-delicately grabbed my face and kissed me, and it was the sweetest thing ever…. I’m on top of the world. I’m going to call everyone I know. Oh my God! I just need to sit down.”

Northwestern University sophomore Lex Singer, who says he got a kiss from Tracy Morgan on the forehead as he finished his “shocking” comedy routine. The popular TV comedian’s show reportedly sold out in 20 minutes, and many found his live stage persona to be dramatically different from his “SNL” and “30 Rock” characters. (Daily Northwestern)
