Virginia’s Ken Cuccinelli says his anti-gay policy only should have been timed better, said nicer

“Could we have dragged our feet and made it take longer? Yes. Should we have? Yes. Should it have been written less like somebody who’s a cold-blooded, objective engineer wrote it? Yes. The one thing we got right in there was: the law.”

Ken Cuccinelli, the controversial, conservative Attorney General for the state of Virginia, talking with the Washington Post. He is discussing a letter he sent out during his first days in office, telling the state’s colleges that they had no legal authority to craft anti-discrimination policies that included gay and transgender classifications. In an online discussion, a reader asked him to explain why he spends so much time against same-sex benefits. He replied that he did not think he’s “spent any other time at all on any topic related to same-sex benefits,” with the exception of that letter and one regulation. In October of 2009, and again in March 2010, Cuccinelli said that his personal belief is that homosexual “acts” are detrimental to society. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow has done an excellent job of giving Cuccinelli’s questionable actions national attention.
