Pomeranian puppy undergoes gender-reassignment surgery [video]

”[We] determined he was a hermaphrodite dog. So, he had both genetalia, a little bit of each…. Extremely rare. I think there’s only a few cases in the United States.”

Sharon Blechinger, director of of Help Every Animal League, who is relaying the journey of Red, an orphan Pomeranian. Blechinger reportedly paid $1,165 for gender-reassignment surgery to ”prevent infection and to reduce risk of cancer.” He is now classified as an ”altered male.” Red has already been claimed for adoption, but other needy dogs remain at the shelter.
