”Modern Family” oh-so-subtly gives fans that gay kiss [video]

"Modern Family" features gay kiss

”Mitchell has a problem with public displays of affection. I remember once at a New Year’s Eve party, stroke of midnight, he high-fived me!

”Two problems with that: 1) Gays don’t high-five. 2) Gays don’t high-five.”

Cam on ABC’s very funny “Modern Family” perhaps explaining why the popular show’s gay characters have not shared a kiss before this week. In this episode, Cam and Mitchell argued about the fact that Mitchell had problems returning Cam’s affection in public places. Mitchell called Cam needy. And by the end of the show, the problem seemed to have been traced back to Mitchell’s gruff father, Jay — or rather, to the fact that Jay’s father never showed him any affection either. The gay couple’s kiss did occur on screen as had been expected, though as a brief background element. If one weren’t looking closely, it may have gone entirely unnoticed. Still, that kiss now joins one of a very few that have ever aired on US primetime, broadcast TV. (Modern Family / ABC)

Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who is an out gay actor and plays Mitchell’s character in the show, told Entertainment Weekly and others that the kiss had been long planned, and that it was not a response to the Facebook campaign. (Entertainment Weekly)
