President Jimmy Carter thinks a gay President possible in “near future” [video]

”I think the entire population has come tremendous strides forward in dealing with the issue of gays. And I would say the answer is ‘yes.’ I don’t know about the next election, but  in the near future. Because step-by-step we have realized that this issue of homosexuality has the same adverse and progressive elements as when we delt with the race issue 50 or 40 years ago.”

In the past, the fair-minded Democrat from Georgia has frustrated some in the LGBT community with his religious views about gay marriage. Carter has said he personally supports civil unions, not marriage.
