Arrest Made in Trans Shooting

Suspect in Sept. 12 incident surrenders himself to MPD, charged

The Metropolitan Police Department announced this morning that an arrest has been made in the case of a transgender woman shot in the early hours of Sept. 12.

Darryl Willard, 20, of Northeast D.C., surrendered himself at First District Police Headquarters today and was charged with ”assault with intent to kill while armed.” According to MPD, Willard knows the shooting victim.

The victim of the shooting, which occurred in the 2300 block of Savannah Street SE, drove herself to the Seventh District Station after the shooting, and was then transported to George Washington Hospital.
