Let’s hear it for wine and chocolate

Wine_Chocolate.jpgThey are two of the most important food groups: wine and chocolate. To celebrate these decadent delights, next weekend and every weekend through the end of February, Wineries of Niagara-on-the-Lake will be hosting Days of Wine and Chocolate.

The 28 members of Wineries of Niagara-on-the-Lake will each feature “a premium VQA wine matched to a delectable chocolate selection.”  For example, Peller Estates Winery will be pairing its 2010 Private Reserve Gamay Noir and dark chocolate with dried cranberry and sage. A complete list of the participating wineries and their pairings is available here.

Days of Wine and Chocolate touring passes are $30 per person (plus applicable taxes) and can be used any of the event weekends.  Passes can be purchased online or by calling the Niagara-on-the-Lake Chamber of Commerce at (905) 468-1950.

To coincide with the wine and chocolate weekends, Niagara’s Finest Inns, a collection of three 4-Diamond, luxury properties, is offering a variety of special packages. Roses, rose petals, sparkling wine or a horse drawn carriage ride, can also be added to any stay for some extra romance. In addition, guests who book any chocolate treatment or any featured treatment at Niagara’s Finest Inns’ Shaw Spa, will receive complimentary chocolate truffles.

Niagara’s Finest Inns is a member of the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association, and its affiliated Harbour House hotel was recently named a TripAdvisor 2012 Traveler’s Choice winner.

Historic Niagara-on-the-Lake is located in Canada’s Ontario province. Additional information on visiting Niagara-on-the-Lake is available from Ontario Tourism.

Travel Note: Southwest Airlines, which received a near perfect rating on the Human Rights Campaign’s 2012 Corporate Equality Index, offers low cost, direct flights between Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI) and Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF). Niagara-on-the-Lake is approximately a one-hour drive from Buffalo, N.Y.
