AFA urges followers to pray to head off any SCOTUS marriage headway

“We know from Scripture, common sense and research that homosexual behavior is immoral, unnatural and unhealthy. We should not normalize this behavior by enshrining it in our marriage laws. … Placing children in homosexual households deliberately deprives children of either a mother or father. No society that cares about children should do this.”

Tim Wildmon, president of the American Family Association, sharing his extreme views while issuing an “urgent prayer alert” today, asking followers to pray against marriage equality ahead of opening arguments coming later this month in Supreme Court cases challenging the Defense of Marriage Act and California’s Proposition 8. Wildmon’s alert does not include whatever research he is citing. Notably, homosexuality has been documented to exist “naturally” among hundreds of animal species, including humans; and research indicates that the sexual orientation of parents is irrelevant. According to the AFA, the organization operates nearly 200 radio stations across the U.S. and bills itself as “one of the largest and most effective pro-family organizations in the country.”
