HBO teases “Looking,” its gay comedy-drama

Oh HBO, why couldn’t you have teased just a little more? The network renowned for sex, violence and Lena Dunham has released the first official video for its new gay comedy-drama Looking, set to premiere January 19, 2014 on the cable network.

Starring Jonathan Groff (Glee, Spring Awakening, Frozen) as Patrick, a gay video-game developer living in San Francisco, Looking will center on Groff and his circle of friends. Scott Bakula (Behind the Candelabra, Star Trek: Enterprise, Quantum Leap) will play Lynn, a successful entrepreneur and pillar of the community, while Russell Tovey (Doctor Who, Being Human [UK], my dreams last night) will star as Kevin, a video game wunderkind who works with Groff.

Hopefully the eight-episode season will perform better than NBC’s New Normal, which was cancelled this year. Groff stated that he wants Looking to display the reality of gay life — including sex scenes that are honest, instead of just needlessly salacious.
