“America should be very proud,” President Obama said today, in a speech delivered in the Rose Garden commemorating the Supreme Court’s decision to rule in favor of marriage equality.

The president affirmed that equality usually arrives in increments, but “then there are days like this, when that slow, steady effort is rewarded with justice that arrives like a thunderbolt.”

“An entire country realized that love is love,” he said. “What an extraordinary achievement, but what a vindication of the belief that ordinary people can do extraordinary things.”
