ABC rejects same-sex performance on Dancing with the Stars

"This is a definitive no"

ABC will be having none of that same-sex nonsense, thank you very much, after ruling out two men dancing together in an upcoming episode of Dancing with the Stars.

According to TMZ, a performance by Who is Fancy (aka Jake Hagood) of his new song “Boys Like You” — about two men falling in love — would have been set against two men ballroom dancing. ABC bosses were opposed to the idea and rejected the proposal. Who is Fancy’s choreographer emailed ABC saying it would “be an awesome look to have 2 males dancing with each other.”

“Apologies all but this is a definitive no from the network,” a DWTS producer responded.

However, the network is apparently okay with “near dancing” — two men dancing within close proximity — during the show. A recent example would be a dance by Alek Skarlatos and Carlos PenaVega, which TMZ called “more like a Cirque performance than romantic ballroom dancing.”

ABC hasn’t responded to requests for comment, but a “high-level source” told TMZ: “Creative conversations are ongoing about the dance number.”

As a reminder, this is perfectly okay, but two men sharing a romantic dance isn’t:
