The Legacy of Laramie

Arena Stage forum with playwright Moises Kaufman, actors from Tectonic, and SMYAL's Andrew Barnett

As part of the Arena Stage productions of The Laramie Project and The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later, Metro Weekly and Arena Stage will host a special community forum on the legacy of the plays and how society has changed — and how it has not — in the years since the murder of Matthew Shepard shocked the nation. Given the recent attention to bullying and suicides of LGBT youth, the message of The Laramie Project remains as relevant to LGBT lives today as it was at its premiere.

The forum, to be moderated by Metro Weekly‘s Sean Bugg, will include Laramie Project playwright Moises Kaufman, as well as actors from the Tectonic Theatre Group, and Andrew Barnett, executive director of SMYAL. The forum, which is free and open to the public, will be held Saturday, Novermber 20, at 5 p.m. in the Keegan Theatre of Arena Stage, 1101 Sixth St. SW, Washington, D.C.

The forum will be recorded for broadcast at MetroWeekly.com. For more information about The Laramie Project and the community forum, visit arenastage.org.
