George Michael has “best Christmas” after deadly pneumonia scare

Pop and standards singer George Michael, 48, sounded more upbeat on his Twitter feed this week after returning home from his hospital stay in Vienna, Austria for pneumonia. On December 23, he Tweeted that, “This has been the worst month of my life,” then joked that, even though he was “not very loud,” he would return to being “my foul mouthed ranting self soon enough.” On Monday, December 26, he continued to sound grateful, saying:

”Best Christmas I can remember, surrounded by the people I love… And knowing that Xmas could have been very different this year for everyone at that table…. As it was we stuffed and laughed ourselves silly, I’m such a lucky man! I hope you all had a great one.”

Michael also held a press conference last week outside his home in London, UK, where he tearfully thanked the doctors who saved his life. He said he had a tracheotomy for “streptococca-something.” Michael said that after his three-week, “touch-and-go” experience, he was feeling more spiritual. (BBC)

George Michael is best know for his work in the 1980s pop duo “Wham!” and for his solo albums and concerts. He made headlines in recent years for a risqué private life that involved drugs, a car crash, sex in public, and spats with Boy George. He announced earlier this year that he and his longtime partner, Kenny Goss, had split up, and that their relationship had ended about three years prior in part due to Michael’s substance abuse and Goss’ alleged use of “drink.”
