Suspect Arrested in Deoni Jones Stabbing

Police arrest Northeast D.C. man in connection with killing of transgender woman

The Metropolitan Police Department announced Friday evening that they have arrested a suspect who is accused of fatally stabbing 23-year-old transgender woman Deoni Jones, also known as JaParker and Logan, while she was waiting at a bus stop.

A press release from the MPD said police arrested 55-year-old Gary Niles Montgomery, of Northeast D.C., in connection with Jones’s stabbing. According to the release, Montgomery will be charged with second-degree murder while armed in D.C. Superior Court.

The arrest caps off a week-long search for Jones’s killer. Metropolitan Police had posted footage of a man they believed to be the suspect on YouTube, and had offered a reward to any person with information about Jones’s stabbing. The original description of the suspect was a black male with medium complexion, estimated to be from 30 to 40 years old, with a beard, last seen wearing blue jeans, gray hooded sweatshirt and a black jacket.

Jones was stabbed in the face on the evening of Feb. 2 while waiting at a bus stop at the intersection of East Capitol Street and Sycamore Road NE, in the city’s Benning Heights neighborhood. Jones was transported to Prince George’s Hospital Center in Cheverly, Md., where she died in the early morning hours of Feb. 3.
