Bobby Flay celebrates his sweet 16

“I’m a burger guy, and I’ve always been a burger guy. As a kid, I was a burger kid, and, as an adult, I’m a burger guy,” said Food Network star and restaurateur Bobby Flay at the opening of his newest Bobby’s Burger Palace Tuesday in Bethesda, Md.

Flay is banking on there being lots of other “burger guys” and “burger gals” out there to support him. The Bethesda restaurant is the fourth Bobby’s Burger Palace in the D.C. metro area and Flay’s 16th location in the Mid-Atlantic area. There are plans to expand again soon with Bobby’s Burger Places coming to Florida and Las Vegas.

Classic_Burger_Bobby_Flay.jpgFirst launched five years ago in Long Island, N.Y., the Bobby’s Burger Palace concept is a nod to the classic burger joint, with a menu largely focused on burgers, fries and shakes. For a twist any burger can be “crunchified,” which means it can be topped with potato chips at no additional cost.

“At Bobby’s Burger Palace, I celebrate America’s variety of flavors, styles and cultures, surrounding this classic staple, offering a selection of specialty burgers, served at a great price, said Flay, who also operates six higher end restaurants from New York City to Vegas.

Cooked to order, patrons can choose from 10 signature burgers such as the Philadelphia Burger with Provolone cheese, griddled onions and hot peppers; the Santa Fe Burger with queso sauce, pickled jalapenos and blue corn chips; and the Napa Valley Burger with fresh goat cheese, watercress and a Meyer lemon honey mustard sauce. All burgers may prepared with Certified Angus Beef or ground turkey, and a grilled chicken breast option is also available.

For the carb-conscious, any burger can be served without a bun on a bed of greens. There is also an assortment of house made sauces, including Chipotle Ketchup, BBP Burger Sauce and Jalapeno Hot Sauce. The sides include hand-cut French fries and sweet potato fries and beer battered onion rings.

There are also ten flavors of milkshakes (which can be malted) in flavors from the classic vanilla bean to pistachio. There are also three “spiked” options including the Vanilla Caramel Bourbon, Pineapple Coconut Rum and Mocha Kahula Vodka. Other spirited refreshments include a selection of seven bottled beers including a regional Dogfish IPA.

The newest Bobby’s Burger Palace is located at Westfield Montgomery Mall at 7101 Democracy Blvd., Bethesda, Md. Call 301-767-3286.
