Though they're all about dodging commitment, two wily young bachelors attempt to come across as very "earnest" as they set out to win their ladies' hearts. The mischievous Jack and Algy have it all thanks to carefully-crafted double lives -- until love and marriage enter the equation. Oscar Wilde's enduring 1895 satire, re-imagined in this version to take place in the decadent '20s and with cross-gendered casting, is a comically sly romp filled with one-liners and double entendres that continue to pack a mighty punch. Revived numerous times on Broadway -- most recently in 2011 -- "The Importance of Being Earnest" was also adapted into a 2002 film starring Oscar winners Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth. Go Wilde with this Scena production at the Atlas Performing Arts Center in Washington, DC. [less-]
