"ComedySportz", the ingenious improv show that pits two teams of quick-witted performers against each other in a balls-to-the-wall battle for comedy supremacy, has been around for 30 years -- which is long enough for it to have its own abbreviation (CSz) and tons of famous alumni, including Wayne Brady ("Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Let's Make A Deal") and Jason Sudeikis ("SNL, Horrible Bosses"). Now coming to the Avenue Theater in the Mile-High City, it works like this -- you and your fellow audience members provide suggestions to each squad, who throw down by coming up with scenes, bits and songs on the spot. Each show includes up to a dozen different improv games, out of a list of more than 100. A referee oversees the action, calling fouls (groan-worthy puns'll get you a flag) and keeping score. Yep, there are points and everything -- but the power to bestow winners and losers is ultimately in your hands. It's no laughing matter, except for the fact that it definitely is. [less-]

Some comedians might take offense if an audience member fell asleep in the middle of their act, but Mike E. Winfield takes such moments and turns them into laugh-out-loud improvisational comedy. "Don't apologize," he told one guy who was caught dozing in the front row. "Do you know how many laughs we got from you?" Winfield, who's appeared on NBC's "The Office", has performed his observational stand-up comedy on "The Late Show", Comedy Central's "Live at Gotham", Showtime's "Comics Without Borders" and BET's "Comic View". He also hosted Fuse TV's "Off Beat", where he commented on the funniest music-themed viral videos, and co-hosted Logo TV's satirical news program, "The Straight Out Report". The charismatic Baltimore native tells hilarious stories about the hardships of everyday life. See him live at the Denver Improv. [less-]

"The New York Times" raves "Honeymoon in Vegas" is "a real-live, old fashioned, deeply satisfying Broadway musical in a way few new shows are anymore." Based on the 1992 Nicholas Cage comedy hit, this is the hilarious story of commitment-phobe Jack, his not-so-patient girlfriend Betsy and a professional gambler named Tommy. Featuring a book by Andrew Bergman (who wrote and directed the original film) and music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown, this is a musical comedy in the Golden Age theatrical tradition, with gags, gams and great tunes. The original Broadway team of director Gary Griffin and choreographer Denis Jones brings "Honeymoon in Vegas" to the Vintage Theatre in Aurora. [less-]

"Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive" -- 1970s, screaming, laughing and staying alive -- these famous lyrics sum up the new jukebox musical spoof where disco fever meets catastrophe films. After getting Broadway "Hooked on a Feeling," this comedy will have you boogieing in your seat to your fav hits from the bell-bottom era. Quirky stock characters claim "I Will Survive" as "Disaster!" brings earthquakes, tidal waves, infernos and killer rats to the opening of a casino and discotheque that is floating on water. The plot can be followed on its own, but if you are a fan of cult films such as "Airport", "The Poseidon Adventure, Swarm" and "Earthquake", you will love spotting the various throwbacks to set pieces, characters and moments in this parody. Get your groovy on with this "New York Times" Critics' Pick and "Knock on Wood" you will have a great time steeped in nostalgia at the Bug Theatre in Denver -- just watch out for killer sharks and the nun with a gambling addiction. Could you be dining with a killer? Named "Best Dinner Show" in Los Angeles and Denver for four years running, "The Dinner Detective" is the largest interactive murder mystery dinner show in the country. Now it comes to Fort Collins, serving up a tasty whodunit along with a four-course sit-down dinner at the Hilton. Set in the present day, these murder-mystery events don't have cheesy costumes, campy dialogue or hokey song and dance interludes. The performers are dressed just like everyone else, so you'll have no way of knowing whether someone at your table is just another guest or one of the talented cast of improvisers. In fact, everyone's a suspect -- including you. The event starts out with a reception featuring tray-passed hors d'oeuvres, followed by the meal, which includes salad, an entree and dessert. Between courses you can expect plenty of murder, mayhem and hidden clues coming to light as you puzzle through the crime. The top sleuth even wins a prize package at the end of the evening -- not to mention serious bragging rights. [less-]

When a master composer with as grand a vision as Hector Berlioz has says a piece of music must've been written by the Archangel Michael, rather than a human, that's saying something. It's saying something about Beethoven's Fourth Symphony, to be precise. The amazing thing is that those kinds of quotes about Beethoven aren't rare. That's why the Colorado Symphony hosts an annual "All-Beethoven" weekend. In this concert at Denver's Boettcher Concert Hall, you'll have a chance to hear that sublime symphony, along with the Overture from "Leonore" and Piano Concerto No. 4, a mainstay of the piano concerto repertoire. Former Colorado Symphony music director and renowned pianist Jeffrey Kahane returns to perform the piece under the direction of Brett Mitchell. Don't wait till next year; experience the divine genius of Beethoven at this performance. [less-]

Christmas carols, Santa's reindeer, the Whos in Whoville, gift exchanges and good will -- everything warm and fuzzy about the holidays gets a red-hot skewering in the seasonal sketch show "Santa's Big Red Sack". A non-traditional look at Christmas cheer that's ironically become an annual tradition for Denver's Avenue Theater, "Santa's Big Red Sack" is clever, witty, silly, relentless -- and definitely not for the easily offended.
