General David Petraeus: I served in combat with gays and lesbians [video]

”[An announced review] will provide a rigorous analysis of the views of The Force on the possible change. It will suggest the policies that will be used to implement a change (if it does come to that), so that it could be as uneventful as in the UK or the Israeli military or, indeed, our own CIA and FBI…. I’m not sure that they [soldiers] do [care if their comrade in arms is gay or lesbian]…. We have experience in the CIA and FBI — I know. I served, in fact, in combat with individuals who were gay and who were lesbian, in combat situations.”

US General David Petraeus on the fast-emerging political dialog over the repeal of the military’s ban on out gay servicemembers. On NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Petraeus would not directly offer his personal opinion, but said he does support what the “Secretary and Chairman have embarked on,” meaning the process to analyze and discuss a change in policy before implementation. He touched on Colin Powell’s change of opinion earlier this month. (Meet the Press)
