Maryland to recognize out-of-state same-sex marriages “as of right now”

State agencies in Maryland will recognize out-of-state gay marriages as of right now. … It’s not that foreign of a concept, I mean, it’s just people, it’s just like any other heterosexual couples. … However a heterosexual couple is treated that was validly married in Maryland or elsewhere, [a same-sex couple] will be treated like that here in Maryland, unless and until a court or the legislature decides differently.”
–Maryland Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler (D) at a Feb. 24 news conference discussing the opinion released by his office finding that the state would recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states. The marriage equality law in neighboring District of Columbia is expected to take effect in early March. (Washington Post)
