Latest Gallup says Americans still divided on gay marriage

”Opponents of legalizing same-sex marriage continue to outnumber supporters in the United States, by 53% to 44%. However, opposition is now tied for the lowest Gallup has measured. Support was slightly higher, at 46%, in 2007.”

Results of a Gallup Poll survey that shows US residents as a whole continue to waver in their support and opposition to same-sex marriages — this year being one of the better results. Since 2004, their data shows support hovers between 37% and 44%; and opposition hovers between 59% and 53%. Their polling data also shows Americans moving up to 16% identifying as having no affiliation with a specific religion. The question asked, though, does not necessarily indicate these respondents have no belief in religion. Other data indicates an historically low satisfaction with the country’s direction, yet respondents say they are spending more than they were a year ago. (Gallup Politics)
