Costa Rica Court: Public referendum on gay civil unions deepens discrimination

”In summary, the court considered that submitting to a majority judgment the rights of a minority deepens and aggravates discrimination against the minority.”

A communique from the Supreme Court of Costa Rica striking down a proposed voter referendum on same-sex civil unions in that country. The court determined that civil unions are a legislative issue, and have blocked a planned public vote that was to take place in December. (TicoTimes.net) (AFP)
