Transgender teen boy denied title of “Homecoming King” in Michigan [video]

“He was voted Homecoming King and, according to the votes, he should’ve been Homecoming King. And it’s just sad. And it breaks my heart that all these people voted, and it was taken away. It was completely taken away from him.”

The mother of Oakleigh Marshall (Reed), a FTM transgender teen in Michigan, who ran for Homecoming King and won. However, the school says rules regarding the contest require the title to be won by a male student, and Oak’s registration still lists him as female. Oak says most classmates and teachers use a male gendered pronoun when referring to him. (WOOD-TV 8)
