Tim Day, black gay candidate for Ward 5 Councilman, explains why he’s Republican

”Regardless of your party affiliation, there are going to be certain parts of it that are anti-something…. Does it upset me that there are members of the GOP nationally that are not LGBT-friendly? Of course it does. Will it make me change my party affiliation? Not any more than a flag burner makes me renounce my citizenship.”

Tim Day, the Republican candidate for the DC City Council seat for Ward 5. He will be facing Harry Thomas, Jr in November. Day is an out gay man who says he is for small government and fiscal responsibility. He tells NBCWashington.com that he has received support from LGBT African-American organizations, but thinks that the GLAA gave him lower ratings than Democratic candidates because he is a Republican.
