Ladies pro golf will now accept MTF transgender players

“We don’t need to comment on this because it’s a dead issue. She can compete if she can qualify. We certainly don’t want to discriminate against anybody, that’s not what the LPGA is about. And if she can qualify, she’ll be able to play. We’re like, the last sports organization to do it, it’s just we’ve never really had to look at it before.”

Cristie Kerr, a winning LPGA golfer weighing in on controversy surrounding the sports organization’s decision to amend their tour’s constitution that required players to be “female at birth.” Lana Lawless, a 57-year-old post-op transgender female, reportedly filed a lawsuit asking for the change because the rule went against discrimination laws in California. She became a headline maker in 2008 after winning a long drive championship while competing in the women’s division. (ABC 12)
