Daytime TV host Anderson Cooper remains coy about private life

AndersonCooperCyneé Simpson of Washington’s ABC 7 spoke with Anderson Cooper Monday morning about his new talk show Anderson She asked him twice about “personal relationships.” The first time Cooper said, “We’ll see where the show goes…. It’s nice to just kind of be yourself,” but mostly deflected the question by talking about his mother Gloria Vanderbilt and his family’s tragedies. The second time Simpson asked, Cooper only said (WJLA):

“You never know. Who knows? I think the show’s really — uh, you start out to do one show and you don’t know where it’s going to evolve. And, as long as whatever goes on is kind of organic and true to who I am, um, then we’ll see where it goes.”

An August 27 article in the Advocate quotes Cooper from an EW profile as saying, as a reporter, he was not interested in the personal lives of other reporters, but that he understood that viewers were.

His first show debuted on Monday with interviews of Amy Winehouse’s family. Tuesday he talks to Kathy Griffin, Daniel Radcliffe, and Snooki. He also shows off his alabaster physique to try out spray tanning.

In D.C., Cooper’s show has replaced Oprah Winfrey‘s in the 4pm timeslot on WJLA. He willremain a news anchor at CNN for Anderson Cooper 360.
