United launches new flights between the nation’s capital and the world’s gay capital

UnitedPlane.jpgUnited Airlines, which is currently completing its merger with Continental Airlines, yesterday announced it will launch its first daily nonstop service between its hub at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), effective May 14, 2012. Westbound service from National to San Francisco will begin the next day, May 15.

The announcement follows recent federal approvement of additional slots for coast to coast flights to and from National.  Last week, American Airlines announced its new flights between National and Los Angeles International Airport.

According to a statement from United, with the addition of the new flights, the airline will serve San Francisco 13 times a day from the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, including United’s hub at Dulles International Airport (IAD).

“We look forward to offering this new service between Reagan National and San Francisco, which will further complement United’s extensive service between these two great American cities and provide more options for our customers,” said Jim Ferea, United’s managing director of domestic planning.

United will initially operate the DCA-SFO service with Boeing 737-700 aircraft, with a total of 124 seats – 12 in United First and 112 in United Economy.

The eastbound flight will depart SFO daily at 1:00 p.m. and arrive at DCA at 9:17 p.m. The westbound flight will depart DCA daily at 8:00 a.m. and arrive in SFO at 11:05 a.m. The flights are now available for sale.

United received a perfect 100 rating in the Human Rights Campaign’s 2012 Corporate Equality Index.
