Trailer: Steve Coogan and a bearded Paul Rudd play gay couple in “Ideal Home”

The comedy drama features the couple taking in an unknown 10-year-old grandson

Steve Coogan and Paul Rudd in Ideal Home

Paul Rudd with a luscious beard and Steve Coogan in cowboy gear? No, we’re not naming Metro Weekly staff fantasies, but rather the trailer for new comedy-drama Ideal Home.

The film, written and directed by Andrew Fleming (Nancy Drew, Barefoot), features Coogan and Rudd as a husband and husband entertainment duo, with Coogan playing Erasmus, a celebrity chef who’s starring in a TV show directed by his husband Paul (Rudd).

However, their snarky yet loving relationship and extravagant lifestyle get thrown for a loop when they discover Erasmus has a grandson he’s never met, and the men reluctantly decide to take him in. Naturally, hijinks will ensue as the boy proceeds to disrupt everything.

Whether it’s any good remains to be seen, and Fleming doesn’t exactly have the strongest of records from a critical standpoint. You won’t have long to wait to find out, though, as Ideal Home premiered at the 2018 Australian LGBTQ Mardi Gras Film Festival and is expected to be released in the U.S. on June 21st.
