Spiking in D.C.

Volleyball tourney returns to D.C.

More than 200 volleyball players from around the country, comprising 36 teams, will descend upon Washington next weekend for the 2009 Gay Volleyball Tournament.

The DC Capital Punishment Volleyball Club is hosting the games, sanctioned by the North American Gay Volleyball Association, Nov. 28-29, at the University of Maryland’s Reckord Armory Gymnasium, 2103 Reckord Armory, College Park, Md.

”This is a great opportunity for us to bring folks from New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and as far away as San Francisco for a great networking opportunity,” says tournament director Jack Fleming.

”It’s a great way to build strength in the community through the interest of volleyball,” he adds.

While the games are open to all men and women, Fleming says they are geared toward the LGBT community. This year D.C. has five teams playing in the games.
