Boo! Spooky Movie Time at AFI Silver

Screen Shot 2013-10-10 at 9.44.51 AM.pngNow that the weather is starting to turn cold and dreary, and each night is coming a little earlier, you might be itching for that frightening feeling. We’ve still got weeks to go before Halloween, but in addition to the haunts that await at King’s Dominion and Six Flags America, you can start getting your boo’s over booze immediately, with the lauch of the eighth annual Spooky Movie International Horror Film Festival. The festival, held at the American Film Institute’s Silver Theatre, continues to expand, now offering 10 days of horror-ful – hopefully not horrible – screenings, 22 features and 30 shorts in all.

Spooky Movie packs a wallop in just its opening days: from the “Spooky Shorts Showcase” that kicks off the festival tonight, Oct. 10, at 5 p.m.; to opening feature Willow Creek, which Variety calls a “nerve-wracking” Bigfoot-themed film written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait, tonight, Oct. 10, at 7:15 p.m., followed by a Q&A with Goldthwait; to the Carrie-esque film Dark Touch set in a remote Irish town and directed by French filmmaker Marina de Van (In My Skin), on Friday, Oct. 11, at 9:30 p.m.; to Pinup Dolls on Ice, Geoff Klein and Melissa Mira’s thriller about a homicidal maniac who hunts down striptease performers, on Friday, Oct. 11, at midnight. Be careful who you holler at ladies!

Festival runs to Oct. 19. AFI Silver Theatre, 8633 Colesville Road, Silver Spring. Tickets are $12 for regular screenings, or an All Fest Pass is $125. Call 301-495-6720 or visit afi.com/Silver or spookyfest.com.
