Winter Restaurant Week gives you another excuse to photograph your food

Diners are encouraged to Instagram their meals

Hate it or love it, the trend of diners photographing their food and sharing it with the world like proud parents of a newborn isn’t ending anytime soon. In fact, next week, you’re going to see a whole lot more of it.

To help promote Winter Restaurant Week, the marketing folks at the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW) are encouraging diners to snap and post pictures to their Instagram accounts while out at participating restaurants. Those diners who follow RAMW on Instagram (@RAMWdc), use the hashtag #DMVRW, and tag the participating restaurant will automatically be eligible to win a number of prizes including roller derby tickets, brunch gift certificates, cookbooks and a grand prize of two tickets to the 33rd annual RAMMY Awards and Gala, taking place on Sunday, June 7 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

This year’s Winter Restaurant Week starts Monday, Jan. 19, and continues through Sunday, Jan. 25 (although many restaurants do extend their promotions), when over 240 of the region’s dining destinations will offer a three-course prix-fixe dinner ($35.15) and/or three-course prix-fixe lunch ($20.15) menu. Most of the restaurants are located in DC, though establishments in Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Arlington and Alexandria are also participating.

The Instagram photos from DBGB Kitchen and Bar will likely include shots of chef Daniel Boulud’s “The Frenchie,” a 7 ounce beef patty with confit pork belly, arugula, tomato-onion compote, mustard and morbier cheese on a potato bun with a side of fries.  This dish is normally available by itself for $19, so getting an appetizer and dessert during lunch for only $20.15 is a real bargain.

From Equinox, the odds are the 36-hour braised beef short rib will be in the spotlight. It is one of four main course-options on chef Todd Gray’s special Winter Restaurant Week dinner menu that also includes a crispy skin Texas redfish, tagliatelle in nicoise olive butter and vegetarian curried cauliflower “stew.”

There is no predicting what photos you will see from M Street Bar and Grill or Chef Geoff’s, they are among a handful of participating restaurants that are making their entire menus available. Chef Geoff’s is sweetening its deal by giving away a $100 gift card everyday of Winter Restaurant Week to one lucky diner.

A complete list of participating restaurants is available at ramw.org/restaurantweek.
