Footloose and (mostly) leather-free

If the thought of thousands of people in town wearing leather and celebrating the leather lifestyle scares you, well, get a non-cowhide grip. (Hearsay hears polypropylene makes a nice alternative, so long as you don’t mind the burn.) Of course, if you’re a vegetarian, Hearsay suggests you just head on out of town. Why not go here? Still, not everyone can be a leather lover — and in that case, where can one go this weekend to indulge your non-tastes? Why not Apex Friday night, January 18, with DJ Joe Gauthreaux? As one sign of this Apex regular and still rising circuit star’s popularity, Gauthreaux has been tapped to headline the massive One Mighty Party during Orlando’s Gay Days in June. On Saturday, January 19, you should hit Be Bar, either early, for Be:X, or later, for Be:Pulse, both offering “cutting edge electronic music and visuals.” But if you still feel like moving without the moo, other leather-lite weekend options include: Town Danceboutique, either Friday for DJ Wess with the young’uns and the men who love ’em, or Saturday for DJ David Knapp with the established clubheads and the muscle-men who love ’em; Taint on Sunday, January 20, at DC9 featuring the return of the original Taint DJ Rock Chasty plus other counter-culture craziness; and Calor, also on Sunday, which starts with a pre-party at Halo early in the night, then at 10 p.m. moves to Five, where DJ Paulo will spin. One listen to his online Gimme More Tribal set and you’ll be begging just like poor little Britney: Gimme, gimme more, gimme more, gimme gimme….
