Ireland’s PM pushes for a referendum on marriage equality

“We hope that the Irish Churches will embrace the message of inclusion, which is shared by many Christians, and will not oppose the extension of full civil rights to gay and lesbian persons.  In particular we hope that the minority Protestant churches in Ireland will empathise with the minority gay community and support legal equality for all the people of Ireland.”

Dr. Richard O’Leary of the pro-LGBT Anglican group Changing Attitude Ireland, on the Irish government’s intention to hold a referendum on same-sex marriage in 2015. Ireland’s Prime Minister, Enda Kenny (pictured above), told reporters on Nov. 5 that he supported the issue “very strongly and we’ll campaign for that when it comes.” (gaystarnews.com)
