Caitlyn Jenner will still vote Republican

The party's anti-transgender views won't dissuade her from voting Republican

Caitlyn Jenner ruffled more than a few feathers when she announced that she was a Republican and previously didn’t support marriage equality. She later reneged on that latter view after a public dressing down from Ellen DeGeneres, but it seems old habits die hard.

Jenner confirmed to the L.A. Times that she was still planning to vote Republican, after she attempted to watch the most recent Democratic debate in Des Moines, Iowa. Jenner was visiting the city with producers from her reality show, I Am Cait, and tried to get tickets to the debate. According to The Times, the request went to CBS News President David Rhodes, but: “Our person told her person that we don’t have any tickets left, which happens to be factual,” Rhodes said.

Instead, Jenner watched the debate on television with students at Drake University. Despite the Democratic Party’s outspoken support for transgender issues, including ending the ban on transgender servicemembers in the armed forces, Jenner will still be voting Republican.

“They didn’t convince me,” she told The Times.

Jenner has been criticized by many in the LGBT community for her political views, particularly for supporting a party that considers candidates such as Mike Huckabee viable candidates for President. Huckabee stated at a previous Republican debate that “The military is not social experiment” when asked about transgender servicemembers. He also drew fire from LGBT groups for claiming he would have pretended to be a girl in high school if it meant showering with female students.
